This battery of tests is given to each athlete at the beginning and at the conclusion of their training program. The results listed below are actual results and where noted number expected, indicates the professional player at a comparable position and size.
- Footspeed: defensive slants from foul lane to foul lane in a 30 second time period.
- Takes/Makes: elbow to elbow jump shots, demonstrating quickness of release and accuracy. Drill is 60sec.
- Chair Drill: a full court drill where player has maximum of 4 dribble from foul line to basket, laying the ball up and exploding back to 1 of 4 perimeter spots for outside shots. Must continue drill until all 4 shots are made.
- Foul Shooting: 3 sets of 5 free throws, where by each set is under additional conditions of fatigue.

Other Info:
- Physical & Mental: Good strength for a power forward, but is a little undersized at 6’6. Needs to improve conditioning and ability to run the floor. Excellent mental toughness.
- Ball Skills: Strong ball skills in the post. Must improve controlling the dribble and not turning the ball over when double teamed. Don’t force the action – will lead to less turnovers.
- Offense: Possesses consistent range out to 15 feet. Needs to work on offensive moves with his back to the basket. Court vision needs improvement – must see the whole floor especially when passing out of double teams. Must improve shot selection.
- Rebounding: Good positioning and timing. Needs to improve vertical leap and ability to get off the floor. Utilizes his frame in order to outrebound taller players.
- Defense: Good post defense. Improving conditioning will allow him to keep his man in front of him.
- Game Knowledge: Good overall knowledge of the game. However, needs to not force the action and know when to shoot and when to pass.
- Strengths: Strength, Post ball skills, Effort.
- Opportunities for Improvement: Needs to improve condition and ability to run the floor. Shot selection. Work on extending shooting range.
- Overall Comments: Derrick needs to improve his conditioning in order to return to being an effective player on both ends of the floor. However, Derrick is very coachable and has a willingness to continue to work on getting back in shape and improving his overall game.
